Pride Manchester House

Established in 1989, Pride Manchester House, a subsidiary of Pride Inc., is a charitable organization located in Bismark, ND that stands tall as a beacon of hope for children facing emotional disturbances. It operates as an eight-bed psychiatric residential treatment facility that is dedicated to children aged 5 to 13 diagnosed with emotional disturbances. The facility prioritizes those under the age of 10, residing in the Bismarck/Mandan human service region, but accepts and evaluates applicants statewide. The facility focuses on creating a nurturing space where young minds can develop the skills and behaviors necessary for positive integration into their homes, schools, and communities.

Referrals typically come from parents, school districts, county social service agencies, or tribal entities. The Admissions and Discharge Committee evaluates each case, recommending treatment and placement needs. Noteworthy is the successful completion of programming by 100% of children in 2007. The average age of residents is 8 to 9 years, and a typical length of stay is 5 to 6 months.

Admission criteria include functional impairment, intellectual ability within an average range, and diagnoses like post-traumatic stress disorder, reactive attachment disorder, psychotic disorders, mood disorders, impulse control disorders, and pervasive developmental disorders. The facility provides 24-hour staffing, counseling sessions, educational programs through Bismarck Public Schools, and access to clinical services from psychologists, psychiatrists, and therapists. Emphasizing individualized treatment based on each child’s needs, Pride Manchester House also focuses on transition and after-care planning for the child and their family throughout the treatment stay.

Pride Manchester House, a nationally accredited facility, stands as North Dakota’s cornerstone residential program offering assessment-based options for short-term placements and outreach support to children and families in their home communities. In its journey spanning over three decades, Pride Manchester House continues to be a pillar of support, providing a lifeline for children in need.
